I believe that more and more leaders/facilitators of small groups will have to aggressively foster authentic discussion and relationships within small groups. People are tired of the superficial conversations we have at the grocery store, they are hungry for something deeper and more meaningful...they are hungry for TRUE community...regardless of the risks. I believe a lot of this comes from our tendency to be "more connected" but at a shallower level. People can know what you are doing 24 hours a day by checking your facebook, but may never ask you "why" you are doing it. It takes a skilled moderator to facilitate depth of relationship in the online forums available. It's amazing how much collateral you can get with your people when you demonstrate humility. We don't have to have all of the answers.
