Kurt and Brenda Warner

Super Bowl MVP Quarterback

In a recent interview with ESPN, Arizona Cardinals Super Bowl quarterback Kurt  Warner, winner of two NFL MVP awards and a Super Bowl MVP award, said, “It's  so hard for people to grasp and understand that it's not about going to the  Pro Bowl or winning an MVP. It's about trying to do something that impacts  the people around you. And that's what I try to do every single day is have  an impact on everyone around me.”

In First Things First: The  Rules of Being a Warner – what works, what doesn’t, and what really  matters most, releasing on June 30, 2009 from Tyndale House Publishers, Kurt  and his wife, Brenda, talk candidly about their marriage, the values they  are working to instill in their seven kids, things they've done right,  mistakes they've made along the way, the importance of giving back, and the  lasting legacy they hope to leave behind.

So much has been written  about “Kurt and Brenda Warner” in the media that people think they know  them. But the Warners want people to know the real Kurt and Brenda—the good,  the bad, and the ugly. In First Things First, they offer a rare,  candid window into their everyday lives and share the off-the-wall things  they say and do—the way they make their marriage work, the way they parent  their children, and the example they work hard to set for  others.

Discover surprising details about the Warner family:

  • Kurt has to pay his own son to toss the football with him in the  backyard.
  • Before she met Kurt, Brenda spent several years in the U.S.  Marine Corps, working in Intelligence.
  • None of the Warner kids really  wanted to watch their dad play in Super Bowl XLIII.
  • The last time Kurt  saw his Super Bowl ring was when the cleaning lady pulled it out from under  the living room couch along with a stack of LEGOs, a handful of Cheerios,  and a half-used stick of Brenda’s deodorant.
  • And much more!

Kurt  and Brenda also discuss how they focus on doing good rather than  just looking good, both in their family and in their public roles  with their foundation. Also called First Things First, the Warner’s  foundation was established in 2001 and is dedicated to promoting Christian  values and positively affecting the lives of those less fortunate. Projects  include Baskets of Hope, which delivers baskets of stuffed animals, toys,  Bibles, and music to children with life-threatening diseases; Homes for the  Holidays, which surprises single-parent, first-time homeowners with complete  furnishings for their new homes; and We’re Going to Disney World, an annual  trip to Walt Disney World for terminally ill children and their families.  The Warners have committed more than $1.9 million to the First Things First  Foundation and have actively initiated more than twelve ongoing programs to  reach people in communities in Arizona, Missouri, Iowa, and beyond.
