Kay Warren
Author & Speaker, Dangerous Surrender
Saddleback Church
Kay Warren along with her husband, Rick Warren, are the founders of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California. Today, it is an evangelical congregation averaging 22,000 weekly attendees, a 120-acre campus, and has more than 300 community ministries to groups such as prisoners, CEOs, addicts, single parents, and those with HIV/AIDS. Recently, the church fed 42,000 homeless people – three meals a day – for 40 days. He is also the best-selling author of many Christian books, including The Purpose Driven Life, and an influential evangelical leader.
As philanthropists, Kay and Rick Warren give away 90 percent of their income through three foundations: Acts of Mercy, which serves those infected and affected by AIDS; Equipping the Church, which trains church leaders in developing countries; and The Global PEACE Fund, which fights poverty, disease, and illiteracy.
In 2005, Kay Warren was instrumental in presenting Saddleback Church’s first HIV/AIDS conference; the Global Summit on AIDS and the Church is now an annual event. Warren launched the HIV/AIDS Caring Community at PurposeDriven.com/HIV in 2006. The online community offers resources and inspiration for churches involved in HIV/AIDS ministry.
